about us

Freedom Center Academy is made up of two schools, our Ministry Academy (FCMA) and our Creative Academy (FCCA). FCMA focuses students on dedicating a year of their lives to intense, servant-based ministry. It is a rigorous year of prayer, scripture memorization, and service in the church, community, and missions field. It is not for the faint of heart. FCCA is a program for both high school students and graduates that focuses on building and perfecting their God-given creative abilities to build up the church in a way that’s consistent with the ever changing technological and creative advances of our world.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

 Our Team

Pastor Jim Wiegand, Senior Pastor

I’ve been the Senior Pastor at Freedom Center Church for the past 24 years. I am a graduate of the Phoenix First Assembly Master’s Commission, am an ordained Assemblies of God minister, and have 31 years of pastoral experience. I proudly served my country as a member of the United States Army. My heart for FCMA students is that all of them would have a season to develop their own faith. It’s dedicating one year of their lives to seeking God, studying and memorizing the Word, and serving others in ministry. This will lay a foundation for the rest of their lives.

Pastor Jason McKay, associate Pastor of FCA and Men’s Pastor

I have worked with youth and young adult leaders at Freedom Center Church for the past 20 years. Most of my life, I was a blue-collar worker and learned about biblical principles such as faithfulness, dedication, and working with excellence while on the job. Youth has always been my heart! I have a desire to see them equipped with everything they need to go into the world and change it. I want to see them working in their giftings that will launch them into their destinies. I want to see world changers developed, and I firmly believe that FCMA is a launching pad! With that said, that is why FCMA burns so passionately within my being. I desire to continue to guide, lead and mold these young men and women into the calling that God has called them to.

Melanie McKay, FCMA Director

I have also worked with youth and young adult leaders at Freedom Center Church for the last 20 years. Over the last 25 years, I have been a stay-at-home mom who has successfully raised and homeschooled two beautiful daughters that have been guided, nurtured, and loved along the way. I have been a Certified Youth Counselor for the last 5 years and have been trained in Sozo Ministry as well. Jason and I love teaching, guiding, and pouring truth into our youth leadership in order to produce leaders this generation seeks. I love the moment when youth and young adults for the first time realize their worth and value, and start walking in their purpose and destiny. It's that Psalms 139 moment when they understand and know that God knows them through and through.

Kelli McKay, FCMA Administrator

I did the first year of FCMA in 2016/2017, and it led me to where I am today. I have been working with the Ministry Academy since I was 18, and I have absolutely loved every second. God has placed a passion in my heart to disciple and love on young adults the way Jesus did.

I am a youth leader at FCC and I love the students there like crazy! They keep me up to date on all the new slang, even though I don’t understand pretty much any of it.

Brett Carleton, FCCA Director

I discovered my love for technology when I was ten years old making websites on my dial up internet. I discovered my love for student ministry while I was still a student. In addition to an extensive background in marketing, video, and web design, I was actively involved in youth ministry for 17 years, serving four of those years as the junior high director at Freedom Center Church. I am so excited for the opportunity to combine my knowledge and experience into building a place where creative minds can grow and utilize their gifts to glorify God.

Sara Carleton, FCCA Assistant

I have had a passion for student ministry since I was 18 years old. After over a decade of dedicated youth ministry, my husband and I were called out, not quite knowing what God was calling us into. Little did we know that He had such an amazing plan for us. We are so excited to be a part of FCCA and having the honor and privilege to mentor the next generation in their God-given talents.
