Impacting Those You Don’t Realize Your Impacting

Writer's picture: Austin RussellAustin Russell

The impact you have on someone may change there lives forever, it’s how you impact them will effect them the most. One of the things that I’ve been learning in my life, is that the impact you have on somebody can change the course of history in their life forever. On Wednesday we went to a place called VIP, it’s a place that deals with mental health. We ended up building some flower boxes and trimmed the hedges and I just thought it was just menial work, not realizing it was going to impact them in amazing way. We did so many boxes, we did 16 in about an hour and a half, the lady that was with us was so shocked as to how much we did. She must’ve thought that we weren’t gonna get that many done. But the one thing that I take away from it is that we did it with a servants heart, and we did it without complaining, and we really showed the kingdom off in a miraculous way. God used us on Wednesday even if it was just yard work. She was really relieved, to know that we were there to help her and the whole company. We influenced that company in an amazing way by just showing Christ and not complaining or doing things that we weren’t supposed to.

What they don’t know is that it also impacted me with one of their workers named Jimmy. Now Jimmy is that kind of person that you just want to get to know, you can tell that he is special needs, but that didn’t stop him from doing work. He showed that you can overcome any obstacle by just being given the chance. Jimmy doesn’t know it but he impacted me in a way of doing everything with just joy in my heart. He is truly the definition of what influencing somebody for better can look like, because he does such a good job at doing a bunch of their yard work, that they don’t treat him any differently than any other worker that is at the building. God had an impact on me yesterday, by using Jimmy. The way he impacted me was that I can do anything that I put my mind to even if I don’t have a disability. It showed me that the definition of Philippians 4:13 can be used in anything, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”.

So my challenge to you is this, the people that you impact matter and the way that you impact matters, how you choose to do it is up to you. So I say when you impact somebody make sure it is in a positive light and it is for Christ. You never know who’s watching you and who you are impacting it can be someone younger than you it can be someone older than you, but whoever that is make sure you’re doing it to spread the kingdom of God.

Sincerely,

Austin Russell
