TRYING TO BE PERFECT

Writer's picture: Vincent ImbrunoneVincent Imbrunone

Have you ever been in a situation where you made a mistake, and you couldn’t stop thinking about it? I know I have. You talked behind your friend’s back or maybe you were supposed to help someone out, but you didn’t show up, you don’t want to admit it, but you made a mistake. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of GOD.” You are not perfect, but you don’t have to be, as much as you try you will still make mistakes. This is really hard for me manly because I want to be seen as strong, but then I make mistakes and I feel so powerless. Knowing I’m not perfect is hard. I don’t believe I’m the only one and I hope and pray that the one who needs to hear this would and receive it.

Genesis 3:7 “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so, they sewed fig leaves together and made COVERINGS FOR THEMSELVES.” The first thing Adam and Eve did was try to cover up the mistake they made. Think about it, when you slip up what is the first thing you do? You hide it. Why? Shame and pride. Because deep down you don’t have it all together and you don’t want to be seen as broken. That is why GOD is so cool because He uses the broken things. Maybe one of the reasons you keep making the same mistakes is because your EYES are not focused on GOD (who is perfect) but on yourself (who is really trying to be). You’re so focused on being perfect that you can’t see the one who is. What are you trying to prove? That you’re worthy to be loved? You’re not worthy of the love GOD gave you, his only son, his PERFECT SON!

1 Peter 2:22 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” His perfection isn’t limited He is so perfect that He can handle ALL YOUR MISTAKES and mine. He did it on the cross. Jesus is perfect enough for you and me. Hebrews 12:2 fixing our EYES on Jesus, the pioneer and PERFECTER of faith. For the joy set before Him He ENDURED THE CROSS scorning its SHAME and sat down at the right hand of the throne of GOD. Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—" Here is my challenge to you: that you would receive GOD’S grace and that you would walk in it.
